Welcome to BommaTux
The Linux bandwidth usage monitor for Pandora
What is BommaTux ?
BommatTux is a tool to monitor the bandwidth usage of a system connected to Belgian ISP Pandora. It shows the results
on a webpage in text and graphical format. It also shows how much data can be transferred before the unofficial 2Gbyte/week
limit is reached.
What about traffic on the local Pandora loop ?
BommaTux only counts the external traffic, not the traffic on the local Pandora loop. Traffic to/from subnets
195.130.128.xxx-195.130.159.xxx and 212.123.0.xxx-212.123.31.xxx and 213.224.0.xxx-213.224.127.xxx is not included in the
measurements for the 2Gbyte/week limit, with the exception of the http proxy servers (213.224.83.2, 213.224.83.6,
213.224.83.10 and 213.224.83.14).
What advantage does BommaTux offer over other utils ?
BommaTux was written specifically for an ISP like Pandora, where it's important not to go over the limit set by the
provider. It filters traffic on the local loop and shows the actual bandwidth usage as monitored by the ISP (see next item).
It also shows how much data is left today until the limit.
Are these stats 100% accurate ?
Yes and no. BommaTux measures all data arriving and departing on the network card, no doubt about it. However, if the
local loop has a delay, packets that are counted by the ISP might not arrive on the network card and therefor will not be
taken into account. BommaTux does not give a guarantee of 100% accuracy, it provides a close match to accuracy. It's always
wise to stay at least 100Mbyte away from the limit.
